Promises, Promises–Word Up Wednesday

dove chocolates

It’s not a secret that I am a chocolate lover. I am particular fond of Dove chocolates, or “Promises” as they are called. I bought a couple of bags Monday for a women’s event we were having at church–they were on sale so I got milk chocolate and caramel. This means I got a lot of promises, well, if you want to call them that.
“Daydream.” “Take a moment for yourself.” “Time for chocolate relaxation.” “It’s a definitely a bubble bath day.” These aren’t exactly promises. They’re more like instructions, opinions . . . or suggestions, maybe. But promises, nope, ain’t buyin it.

Why? Because I know promises. I stand on promises. I teach promises, and “It’s definitely a bubble bath day,” is not a promise.

I am thankful to serve the God of promises: Promises of faithfulness, provision, hope and a future, and promises to protect, equip, forgive and sustain. Promises like:

Isaiah 40:29-31
He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless. Even youths will become weak and tired, and young men will fall in exhaustion. But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Matthew 11:28-29
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Isaiah 64:4
Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

There’s just not enough room in one blog to share all the promises of God. But I do know that they are promises– God’s word that He will do the things He says He will do. The knowledge that He is faithful to keep His promises gives me peace, hope, security, rest and comfort unmatched by any chocolate promise out there. God’s promises never fail and they’re not harmful to your cholesterol levels either!!

And that’s the word up this Wednesday.
